Weather: Here comes the sun. There will be a few patches of fog this morning and a few widely-scattered showers later today, but otherwise it will be sunny and a bit warmer, with highs reaching the upper 70s. Rain clears out completely tonight with lows in the upper 50s. Wednesday will be sunny and warm, with a high around 83.
Traffic: There’s a rolling roadblock scheduled for the Corridor X construction zone on I-65 today, in the northbound lanes. It will begin at the I-20/59 interchange at 1:30 p.m.
Lower garbage fees for Kimberly residents. The Kimberly City Council will consider awarding the contract for garbage pickup services to WastePro, which submitted the low bid last week in the council’s regular session. The council had put the contract up for bids again after the current provider requested a rate increase that was higher than surrounding communities. A committee will check the bid to see if it meets the proper specs.
Mobile meth lab busted. Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested four people Monday when, while investigating a call about trespassers, they found a working methamphetamine lab in a car near a house in Minor. The deputies found more drug-making equipment inside the house.
Sports: Amanda Dean is in sixth place after the first day of the AHSAA Track and Field Girls’ Heptahlon state championships at Hoover. In the boys’ decathlon, Eric Bennet of Jordan sits in 25th place overall, teammate Ben Barnett is 49th, and Casey Fuller of Corner is 40th…. Baseball: Brandon Phillips’ double in the eighth inning sent home the game-winning run, and then Phillips scored on a double by Chris Heisey as Cincinnati defeated the Braves 3-1 Monday night.
