The Fultondale City Council on Tuesday certified the Oct. 9 runoff election, which seated two council members.
Incumbent Darrell Hubbert won the Place 3 contest against Jimmy Lay, in a 588-524 race.
Hubbert has been a councilman for eight years.
In the Place 5 position, former councilman Greg Morris won his race 560-540 against another former councilman, Thomas “Tip” Blizard.
Both races include the seven absentee ballots turned in. Fultondale had no provisional ballots for the election.
Fultondale Mayor Jim Lowery congratulated the election winners, and then invited Morris to step immediately into the empty chair that he had formerly occupied.
The Place 5 position has been a revolving door lately.
It was most recently filled by councilwoman Evelyn Kay Hicks.
The council had appointed Hicks to fill the seat that Morris had vacated when, by state law, he was required in April 2011 to step down after missing meetings for 90 consecutive days.
Then in August 2012, Hicks resigned because she was unhappy with actions taken by the Keep Fultondale Moving Forward Political Action Committee.
Since the council position was vacated, Morris was able to fill it immediately instead of waiting until Nov. 5, when other incoming council members will take up their positions.
Morris was sworn in Thursday morning in the municipal courtroom.
