FULTONDALE — Fultondale is extending a ban on new construction in the Glendale neighborhood as the city considers rezoning the area.
The city council on Monday extended a moratorium on the issuance of permits for new construction so the Planning Commission can continue to consider revisions to the neighborhood’s zoning. The commission would then make a recommendation to the city council.
Currently, the neighborhood is zoned for multi-family structures, and the city is considering changing it to business zoning.
Mayor Jim Lowery has said previously that it will be a mixed-use neighborhood where families will continue to live. He said allowing businesses to open in the area would increase property values among other benefits for residents and the city.
