NJN/am for Wednesday, April 10

Good Wednesday morning to you…

Weather: Severe storms tomorrow. Today will shape up as another gorgeous day with highs in the middle 80s. Tonight will also be warm with lows in the middle 60s and a slight chance of a passing shower. But the trouble comes Thursday, as a storm system comes from the west and brings us the potential for severe weather, including some isolated tornadoes. The main squall line should reach the metro area at about lunchtime. Keep your weather radio handy and make sure you are up to date on watches and warnings throughout the day.

“Opening sooner.” Fultondale officials got a little dig at their counterparts in Gardendale on Tuesday morning, as they broke ground on a new Aldi grocery store on Walker Chapel Road. A sign at the site says, “Opening sooner,” making fun of a sign that says “opening soon” which has stood near the site of the long-announced Publix store in Gardendale. The Aldi store is expected to open in August, barring weather delays.

Bentley in the race again. Gov. Robert Bentley announced Tuesday that he will run for a second term. His campaign confirmed the decision over the weekend at a college GOP meeting. The Tuscaloosa doctor, now 70, will first appear on the ballot in the Republican primary a year from June.

Shades of Watergate? The FBI is investigating how the liberal magazine Mother Jones obtained a recording of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., as he and his staff discussed a possible opposition in the upcoming election by actress Ashley Judd. McConnell and staffers are heard discussing Judd’s past problems with depression. The senator accused the magazine of using tactics similar to the Watergate scandal to obtain the recording, which it published on its website; Mother Jones’ editor said it got the recording from someone else, and was not involved directly.
