Father and son killed after Pinson football game

PINSON — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of two people who died after being struck by a car in front of Pinson Valley High School on Friday night.

Walter Smith, 59 and his 2-year-old son Noah were hit by a 60-year-old driver after the two were crossing over Alabama 75 after the Indians’ playoff game.

The youngster was dead on arrival at St. Vincent’s, while the father perished later. Both were wearing dark clothing and were difficult to see, which has few street lights along that stretch of road.

The Sheriff's Office ruled the deaths as accidental, and said the driver will not be charged.
