Today, The Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library will host a reception from 2-4 p.m., in honor of military veterans, “Rosie the Riveters” and military supporters. Sports: Playoff time. The first round of the AHSAA playoffs is tonight, with four local teams in action, all on the road against ranked teams. Mortimer Jordan opens Class 5A playoff play at No. 5 McAdory, Gardendale heads to No. 8 Tuscaloosa County in 6A, Fultondale travels to No. 7 Lanett in 2A, and Corner goes to No. 6 Dadeville in 4A. Meanwhile, Tabernacle Christian’s 8-man football team is playing at noon today for their first ever National Association of Christian Athletes Division II championship, but they must face the Carolina Wildcats home-school team first. The Wildcats eliminated Fountain (S.C.) Hill Christian 68-8 on Thursday morning at the tournament in Dayton, Tenn. Hope Christian School, the home school team based in Pelham which handed the Torches their only loss of the past two seasons, plays for the Division I title on today as well.
