We remember those who served. Veterans Day is Sunday, and several events are being held in honor of those who served in our military. Today, The Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library will host a reception from 2-4 p.m., in honor of military veterans, “Rosie the Riveters” and military supporters. North Jefferson Middle School will host a Veterans Day program today at 2.

Sports: Playoff time. The first round of the AHSAA playoffs is tonight, with four local teams in action, all on the road against ranked teams. Mortimer Jordan opens Class 5A playoff play at No. 5 McAdory, Gardendale heads to No. 8 Tuscaloosa County in 6A, Fultondale travels to No. 7 Lanett in 2A, and Corner goes to No. 6 Dadeville in 4A. Meanwhile, Tabernacle Christian’s 8-man football team is playing at noon today for their first ever National Association of Christian Athletes Division II championship, but they must face the Carolina Wildcats home-school team first. The Wildcats eliminated Fountain (S.C.) Hill Christian 68-8 on Thursday morning at the tournament in Dayton, Tenn.
