— Gardendale’s Martha Moore Public Library will be closed on Wednesday, but not for a holiday of any kind.
Most Jefferson County public libraries will be shut down while the system’s computer servers in downtown Birmingham are replaced, according to Gardendale library director Connie Smith.
“Those few libraries that will remain open will only offer limited services,” Smith said. “They won’t have any computer services, except one or two branches that have their own independent WiFi service. Ours doesn’t.”
Among those that will remain open are the Fultondale and Warrior libraries, but directors for both of those locations said they will only be checking books in and out, and nothing more.
The outage will also affect the library system’s website. “During that time, users won’t be able to download audio books or e-books,” Smith said. “The work is expected to start at about 8 a.m. They may get done by the afternoon, but with computer systems, who knows what problems might pop up.”
Normal library hours will resume on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
