Crash kills 3-year-old girl in Morris

MORRIS — A car crash near Morris claimed the life of a 3-year-old girl Wednesday night.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said that Samantha Hays, of Warrior, was riding in a booster seat in a green Chevolet Malibu driven by her mother. The car ran off Morris Majestic Road near the intersection with Bill Jones Road near 9 p.m., and ended up in a ditch.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother, whose name has not been released, was not hurt.

The Morris Fire Department also responded to the crash.
