Hank Turner falls just short of all-American wrestler status at national tournament

Hank Turner. the state champion wrestler from Pinson Valley who was just named The North Jefferson News 2014 Wrestler of the Year, came up just short in his bid for all-America status at the NHSCA High School National Wrestling Cham­pion­ships.

The tournament was held last week in Virginia Beach, Va.

Turner was part of a field of 68 wrestlers at 145 pounds, with the top eight finishers named as All-Americans.

Turner easily won his first two bouts, but lost to Jared Hill of Clovis, Calif. by a 8-0 score. He then beat Joe Little of Council Rock, Pa. but lost to Logan Moriarity of Jefferson City, Mo., again by an 8-0 score.

The most recent wrestler to earn All-American status from the local area was Brandon Brindley, the four-time state champion from Mortimer Jordan.
