CORNER — Tips from a shoplifting incident at a store in Sumiton helped investigators tie that crime to a robbery at a pharmacy in Corner, and let them to an arrest.
James Ryan Cox, 29, was arrested at his home in Dora on Thursday morning, after Jefferson County Sheriff's investigators linked the man seen in video of the Corner robbery with another video from the Walmart store in Sumiton.
In both cases, a suspect was seen wearing a similar jacket. Video from the Walmart case included a license tag number and vehicle description, which led them to Cox. Tips called in to the sheriff's office also pointed to Cox, according a statement from Chief Deputy Randy Christian.
Cox is charged in the robbery at Corner Discount Drugs on Corner School Road, which took place late Tuesday night. Surveillance video showed a man breaking in the front glass door with an aluminum bat, then went to the prescription counter and took several bottles, and then fled the store on foot.
The suspect was wearing a jacket with reflective striping, much like that worn by paramedics. The Walmart suspect was shown wearing a very similar jacket.
Cox is charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property. He is lodged in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.
