Isaac update: Storm weakening, creeping inland into Louisiana

Isaac has been downgraded back to tropical storm status, but is still packing a punch as it creeps inland through Louisiana on Wednesday afternoon.

The storm is moving toward the northwest at just six miles per hour, and has maximum sustained winds of 70 m.p.h., putting it just under hurricane strength. At its current rate, the storm will move through Louisiana and enter southern Arkansas on Friday morningthen into Missouri as a tropical depression on Saturday.

For central Alabama, the only effect will be a good chance of thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday. The National Weather Service says there is a slight chance of weak tornadoes, but these should be confined to areas west of Interstate 65.
