FULTONDALE —
The city of Fultondale voted Monday to renew contracts with two local senior centers.
Through federal grants, Fultondale provides $10,000 each to the Fultondale and Mt. Olive senior centers. Most of the funds pays the salary of the center directors, the rest goes toward training, supplies and outreach.
City officials said the Jefferson County Office of Senior Citizen Services funds the centers directly, and Fultondale reimburses the county agency.
This is the second year Fultondale has hosted the Mt. Olive center in order to keep the center open after Jefferson County’s financial crisis.
In other business, the council appointed officers for the Aug. 28 election.
This year’s elections in Fultondale will held at the senior center at Black Creek Park.
Normally there are two polling places in Fultondale: The senior center and city hall.
The city is usually required to host two polling places because Fultondale is represented by two members of the house of representatives: Each gets his or her own polling site.
Mayor Jim Lowery said that since the house members are not up for election this year, the city will have just one polling place for the Aug. 28 elections.
Fultondale’s election officers are Diane Knight, election inspector, and her assistant, Ken Knight.
There are eight clerks: Jean Brooks, Charlotte Burgett, Phillip Burgett, Lucille Carlisle, Pam Carlisle, Marie Dixon, Louise Livingston and Sue Reeves.
