Gardendale man charged with sexual abuse of child

GARDENDALE — A Gardendale man is being held in the Jefferson County jail on charges of sodomy and sex abuse of a child younger than 12.

The Gardendale Police Department began an investigation of Jason Scott Whitehead, 40, in mid-2012, according to Gardendale Police Lt. Bryan Lynch.

A grand jury indicted Whitehead in November.

Lynch said he can not discuss details of the case, but said the suspect had an “established relationship” with the alleged victim.
