GARDENDALE — If you've had a hankering for a Dilly Bar or a Peanut Buster Parfait, you can get your fix starting Friday morning.

The new DQ Grill and Chill restaurant will open its doors for the first time at 10 a.m., according to franchise owner Byron McMath.

The restaurant is located on Fieldstown Road in Gardendale, on the site of a former Shell gas station. It's next door to the site of a Dairy Queen store that served the city for many years, but which dropped its franchise agreement about a year before closing in 2011. (Dairy Queen changed the name of its new-concept stores to simply "DQ" a few years ago.)

McMath, an attorney from Jasper, holds the franchise for DQ Grill & Chill locations in metro Birmingham.

The Dairy Queen store located inside Stuckey's at Interstate 65 exit 285, near Smoke Rise, is the last remaining old-style store in the metro area.
