Morris couple, infant injured in crash near Good Hope

GOOD HOPE — A family from Morris was seriously injured Wednesday morning in a crash on Interstate 65 in Cullman County.

With local roads slick due to rainfall, a 2006 Kia car driven by Ashlyn Stephens, 18, ran off the I-65 northside ramp at the 304 exit in Good Hope and flipped nearly 20 feet down, eventually resting upside down in the ditch between the ramp and a nearby access road.

In addition to Stephens, 20-year-old Bryan Stanley and four-month-old Brayden Stanley were injured and transported from the scene.

Authorities say all parties involved were taken to Cullman Regional Medical Center for treatment. According to Bryan Stanley's mother, the mother and father have been released, but the infant remains hospitalized with bleeding on the brain.

Stephens had given birth to the infant while Bryan Stanley had been in U.S. Army basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C. and later training at Ft. Lee, Va. He only met his sone for the first time last week, in a reunion featured in a front-page photo in the Dec. 5 edition of The North Jefferson News.

Trent Moore of our sister newspaper The Cullman Times contributed to this report.
