WATSON — An elderly man was robbed at gunpoint, then locked in a storage shed since Saturday morning, and finally rescued early Monday on property near Lassiter Mountain Raceway, just south of the Watson community.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said it was called in at about 4:30 this morning, after the victim's son became concerned about the man's whereabouts and safety. The 80-year-old Birmingham resident owned the property on Brackett Loop Road, just off Republic Road, and had gone to do some cleanup work at about 9 a.m. Saturday.
The victim told deputies that a man slugged him in the head, then pulled a gun. The suspect forced the victim into the shed, and then stole a 1988 Chevrolet van.
The victim's son found his father still locked in the shed. Paramedics were called, but the victim refused treatment.
Authorities are still looking for the red Chevy C-10 van with Alabama license tag BA61813. If you see this van, call the Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450, or Crimestoppers at 254-7777.
