Mt. Olive man one of two killed in morning collision on I-65

BIRMINGHAM — A collision on Interstate 65 early this morning left two people dead, one of them from Mt. Olive.

Randy Walton, 45, of Mt. Olive was riding his motorcycle southbound when he struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the highway.

The wreck happened just after 4 a.m. near the Daniel Payne Drive/41st Street exit, and tied up traffic on the inbound commute for several hours.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Phillip Russell said that the pedestrian's name could not be released yet because next of kin had not been notified, but that the person may have ties to the North Jefferson area. He was described as a white male.

We'll have more on this story as it develops.
