Sports: Friday night lights. Time for Week Six of the high school football season, and the NJN Big Game tonight is at Center Point as they host Pinson Valley. Last week the Eagles knocked off McAdory, then the top-ranked team in Class 5A, and the winner of tonight's contest will be the favorite to win the top playoff seed in Region 6. In other games, Gardendale travels to Lawson Field near Irondale to play Huffman, Mortimer Jordan hosts Moody and Fultondale is at Pleasant Valley, to name a few... College football: Tide assistant suspended. Cory Harris, a strength and conditioning assistant coach, was suspended by the school after officials discovered he had made a short-term loan to safety HaHa Clinton-Dix, who himself was suspended indefinitely earlier this week. Such loans are considered impermissible benefits by NCAA rules; this violation would be considered minor with fer repercussions for the Alabama program... Baseball: Braves fall. The Los Angeles Dodgers took the first game of their NL Division Series with a 6-1 win over the Braves. Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw struck our 12, as Atlanta struggled defensively. Elsewhere, St.Louis routed Pittsburgh 9-1 in their series opener; Carlos Beltran smashed a three-run homer in that game.
