Arts festival doubles attendance

NORTH JEFFERSON — The Fultondale Arts Council held the second annual Black Creek Arts Festival on Saturday at Black Creek Park with over 30 artists showing off their work to the public.

“We thought it was absolutely wonderful,” said Kara Kennedy, volunteer board chair on the council. “The artists had a great time. The people in attendance had a great time. Everyone loved the music. It was bigger and better than last year.”

Live bands performed at the festival. Wildwood Ruminators, The Gypsy Begonias and Abbey Parks all played for the crowd.

This year the festival’s attendance doubled in size, with an estimate of over 500 people in attendance. Kennedy credited the Fultondale Arts Council, the city of Fultondale and Mayor Jim Lowery for helping the arts council orchestrate the event.

“We have a great board who works hard to put on these events and arts programs out in the area,” said Kennedy. “We want to thank the mayor and the city of Fultondale for working with us as well.”

The festival featured locally renowned folk artists Maurice Cook, Jim Weaver, Teresa Wamble and Linda Holt, who is a Fultondale resident.

It is not yet known how much money was raised at the festival. A percentage of the funds will go to the Fultondale Arts Council for future arts programs.

The next Black Creek Arts Festival will take place next year on June 8.
