The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of north Alabama, including Jefferson and Blount counties.
The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. It means that severe thunderstorms with high winds, hail, strong lightning and heavy rain could develop in the area.
The watch originally omitted Walker, Jefferson and Shelby counties, but those were added on later.
The watch comes ahead of a storm system that is coming in from the northwest, which has already spawned a number of severe storms in west Tennessee.
We'll have further updates as events warrant.
