Gov. Robert Bentley has announced the latest round of roads to be improved through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP), and three local roads are among those slated for work.
Two roads in Gardendale will be repaved. One is Tarrant Road from Alabama Highway 3 — better known as Decatur Highway or U.S. 31 — to New Castle Road. Another repaving project is for New Castle Road itself (officially listed as County Road 121), going north from Tarrant Road to Paradise Valley Road.
In extreme western Blount County, County Road 5 will be repaved from U.S. 31 westward to the Walker County line.
The two Gardendale projects will receive $1,146,412 total funding from ATRIP, with $286,603 in funding coming from Gardendale in an 80/20 split. The Blount County Road 5 project will receive $1,832,647.81 from ATRIP and $458,159.45 from the county.
No work schedules have been announced yet.
