An occupant for a vacant supermarket? In a very brief Kimberly City Council meeting Tuesday, Mayor Bob Ellerbrock announced that a company has inquired about moving into the old IGA building on Decatur Highway, with the intention of turning it into a manufacturing facility. Ellerbrock said he could not name the U.S.-based company, but that it would be used for manufacturing “over-the-counter creams” and would employ between 75 and 150 workers. We'll have more on this story later today at

Drugstore courier abducted, robbed in Pinson. A Jefferson County Sheriff's Department spokesman said that a courier delivering pharmaceuticals to a Rite-Aid store was confronted Tuesday morning about 10:30 by four black men. He was forced into his van and driven a vacant house about two miles away just off Highway 75,where the suspects bound and masked the victim and took various drugs from the van, then drove away in a red SUV. The victim later freed himself and called for help. No leads on suspects just yet.

Sports: More Saban talk. As worked leaked out yesterday that Texas football coach Mac Brown might be on his way out (later denied by the school and by Brown), reports surfaced that Alabama coach Nick Saban has a new contract waiting to be signed. Paul Finebaum first mentioned on his radio show that the contract had been on Saban's desk “...since Friday – and this is Tuesday,” implying that Saban was waiting to see how the Longhorns situation would play out. Finebaum's words sparked a lot of buzz Tuesday afternoon, but little in the way of confirmed information... Prep football: Our annual North Jefferson News All-Star Team is released today in the Wednesday print edition, and Pinson Valley star running back Nick Gibson is named our 2013 Player of the Year. Gibson, a junior, ran for more than 2,200 yard as he led the Indians into the second round of the playoffs... Prep basketball: Two close boys games locally on Tuesday, as Gardendale needed overtime to knock off Carver by six points in a Class 6A area game, and Tabernacle Christian got a late basket by Caleb Lindsey to clip visiting Chilton Christian by one point. Elsewhere, Hayden's boys and girls swept Curry, while Mortimer Jordan was swept on the road at Walker and Pinson Valley lost a pair at Center Point.
