SUMITON —
Police are searching for a Fultondale resident who escaped from the Sumiton city jail this morning.
Kenneth Lynn Carlton, 22, ran and escaped the police station at about 8 a.m. when he was being moved from one cell to another inside the jail, according to a report from the Daily Mountain Eagle.
Officers chased Carlton, but he eluded police in the woods behind Bevill State Community College.
Officers have been searching for Carlton since the escape, and could bring in U.S. Marshalls to help.
Carlton was being held on five counts of failure to appear on misdemeanor charges. He also has a felony warrant and four other misdemeanor warrants pending for drug charges and obstructing justice.
He will now be facing an additional felony charge for escape.
Officials with the Sumiton Police Department were unavailable for comment.
Anyone with information regarding Carlton’s whereabouts is asked to call Sumiton Police at (205) 648-3261.
