CORNER —
Two men have been arrested in the Friday robbery of a convenience store.
Jarrod Kellum, 27, of Empire and Zakhary Somerset, 22, of Fultondale were arrested by sheriff’s deputies on Sunday after their car was stopped by Gardendale Police on Fieldstown Road.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian said that the owner of the Cross Roads Convenience Store, located at the corner of Warrior Jasper Road and Mt. Olive Road, was robbed at gunpoint while he was sweeping the back of the store. The robbers fled in a small black car.
On Sunday, the store owner called the sheriff’s office to report that the robbers had returned, and that he believed he was about to be robbed again. The robbers took off, but not before the owner got the license tag number and a better description of the car. That helped Gardendale Police apprehend the suspects a short time later.
Christian said the suspects were then taken to the Mt. Olive Substation, where they confessed to Friday’s robbery.
Kellum and Somerset were charged with first-degree robbery, and are held in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.
