Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) pulled a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives for his latest proposal to avoid the so-called “fiscal cliff” when it became apparent that more conservative members of the GOP caucus were opposed to it. The plan had already been rejected by President Obama, and the vote was mainly for show. However, with the plan scuttled by his own party, Boehner’s tenure as speaker may now be in jeopardy, as a new Congress prepares to begin in a couple of weeks.
Crash kills 3-year-old. An accident on Morris Majestic Road near Bill Jones Road claimed the life of a youngster from Warrior. Samantha Hays was declared dead at the scene where he mother’s car ran off the road and into a ditch. The mother was not hurt.

The Jackets and Hornets play tonight at about 7:45, while Jordan meets Hanceville at 6:30 in winner’s bracket games… College football: Gus Malzahn has hired Rodney Garner away from Georgia and brought him back to Auburn to serve as assistant head coach and defensive line coach. Garner was an offensive lineman at Auburn in 1988 and served as recruiting coordinator, tight ends coach and assistant strength coach for the Tigers in the 1990s.
