Kimberly council takes pay cut
By Melanie Patterson
The North Jefferson News
During a special council meeting Tuesday, the Kimberly mayor and town council signed waivers to have their pay reduced, following across-the-board cuts for all town employees.
Mayor Craig Harris and councilwoman Donna Cude agreed to take the 20-percent cut suggested by Harris.
Councilmen Brad Stark, Bob Ellerbrock and Brian Pharris opted to waive 100 percent of their pay.
Lowell Holland said he will definitely take a salary reduction, but does not yet know the amount.
Not counting the waiver, the mayor’s salary is $250 a month and council members’ salaries are $100 a month.
On June 9, the Kimberly Town Council announced 20-percent reductions in pay for all town employees.
Town hall and street department employees had their work hours reduced to 32 each week, with town hall closed on Fridays until further notice.
Police officers still work their full schedule, but had their pay reduced by 20 percent.
Also receiving pay cuts are the town’s municipal judge, Buddy Wise; prosecutor Greg Pugliese, public defender Owen Roberts, zoning officer Bob Jones, and building inspectors John Mulvehill and Brent Earnest.
In other business, the council:
• adopted a resolution requesting Alabama Power to disconnect 89 street lights in order to cut costs. There are approximately 300 street lights in Kimberly. There will possibly be more lights turned off later.
• named councilman Ellerbrock as mayor pro-tem
• appointed John Richardson to the Kimberly Planning and Zoning Commission. He is president of the Liberty Park homeowners association.
