WARRIOR — The Warrior City Council voted Thursday night to accept a bid to repave Caldwell Drive.
The bid of just under $18,000 came from Butler Contracting. Originally, the bids opened were for additional streets, but the council approved only Caldwell Drive in order to hold down the cost.
The council also voted for three public storm shelters that would hold up to 300 people, as approved by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency. The city is applying for grant money made available by Jefferson County to communities hit by the April 2011 storms. If the grants are approved, the shelters could be built at no cost to Warrior, whereas shelters built through the Federal Emergency Management Agency would require a percentage to be paid by the city.
