Sports: Mowing ‘em down. Bailey Murphy, the freshman phenom pitcher for Mortimer Jordan, struck out 16 Mountain Brook batters on Tuesday as the fourth-ranked Blue Devils won 4-1. Morgan Cantrell had two RBIs. Meanwhile, it took a two-run walk-off homer by Alyssa Phillips — the ninth batter in the order — to give sixth-ranked Hayden a 2-0 win over Good Hope in eight innings… Prep baseball: Jordan had a relatively easy time with Hayden in a doubleheader sweep that served as a tune-up for Friday’s first round of the Class 5A playoffs. The Devils prevailed 9-1 in the opener and 13-3 in the six-inning nightcap… Broadcasting: Pat Summerall, whose smooth, sparse play-by-play was a perfect blend with the bombast of partner John Madden, died Tuesday of cardiac arrest. Summerall, 82, played for the New York Giants in the 1950s and 60s, then transitioned to the television booth. Known best for his NFL work with Madden on CBS and then FOX, he also was the voice of The Masters and PGA golf for many years, and also the U.S. Open tennis tournament.
