Good Wednesday morning to you ...
Weather: More of the same. Today’s high is 95 degrees, and triple-digits are expected for the rest of the week through Saturday.
Traffic: Interstate 65 in Gardendale is back to normal after Tuesday’s wreck at the Beasley Road overpass. In Fultondale, blasting operations will continue today at 1:30 p.m. on I-65 between Daniel Payne Drive (Exit 264) and Walkers Chapel Road (Exit 267). A rolling roadblock by Alabama State Troopers and the Fultondale Police Department will slow I-65 traffic northbound. The operation will also affect U.S. Hwy. 31 from Ellard Road to the U.S. 31 southbound on-ramp to I-65 until blasting is complete. Blasting will take about 10 minutes to complete.
Deals abound: The Greater Gardendale Chamber of Commerce is selling Rewards Cards that offer discounts and specials at 20 businesses in town. One of the biggest deals is $200 worth of free care at Gardendale Chiropractic Center.
Takeover: The Alabama Department of Education today is taking over the Birmingham School System after the system failed to adopt a plan that would cut costs. School systems in Alabama are required to have one month of operating expenses in reserve ($17 million for Birmingham); the Birmingham system has only four days of operating expenses in reserve ($2 million).
