Suspect sought in kidnapping and sexual assault near Warrior

WARRIOR — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of a kidnapping and sexual assault on Sunday afternoon in far northern Jefferson County.

According to Sgt. Jack Self, a woman reported that an unknown male picked up her brother to take him home from a store, and offered to take her back to the store. She accepted and got in the truck, but the suspect then took off in the opposite direction.

The woman tried to get out of the truck, but the suspect pulled her back inside and drove to a dirt road off Warrior-Jasper Road. She tried to escape again, but the suspect caught her, dragged her back to the truck, beat her and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect then left the victim and drove away. She walked back to Warrior-Jasper Road, where a passing motorist picked her up.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-40s, standing 5-foot-11 and weighing about 165 pounds. He was driving a 1980s-model blue pickup truck, with a partial license tag number BB4404.
