Weather: Tropical Storm Isaac continues to plod its way through Louisiana, having reached Baton Rouge not long after midnight. The storm continues to drift to the north, and the eye won’t enter Arkansas until late tonight at the earliest. Stripping copper while, uh, stripping. Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man and woman from Trafford for breaking into a vacant mobile home south of McCalla on South Shades Crest Road on Tuesday. The pair is lodged in the Shelby County Jail, and is suspected in a string of robberies in and near Hoover.

Presidential nominee Mitt Romney makes his acceptance speech tonight,

The National Football League and its referees are still at loggerheads over labor negotiations, so the league has announced it will use replacement officials in the first week of the regular season, as it has done throughout the pre-season exhibition games. The replacement refs, who have met with criticism for blown calls, largely come from small-college ranks…. Baseball: The Braves lost to the Padres 8-2 on the last game of a 10-game road trip. They remain atop the National League wild card race, however.
