Your City, Your Vote 2012: Gardendale, Fultondale re-elect mayors

Ragland, Pylant and Armstrong win mayoral races; Trafford faces runoff

North Jefferson County's largest cities will both keep their incumbent mayors for four more years.

Gardendale Mayor Othell Phillips defeated former councilman William Flippo by 695 votes. In Fultondale, Mayor Jim Lowery beat John Douglas by 581.

Farther north, councilman Johnny Ragland will be Warrior's next mayor, winning his race against Oscar Turner. Ragland will replace retiring mayor Rena Hudson.

Joe Pylant topped Charles Ray Densmore in the mayoral contest in Morris, and Larry Armstrong handily defeated Hayden incumbent mayor Thelma Smith.

Trafford mayoral candidates will face a runoff between incumbent Mayor Robert Niblett and Clint Daniels.

Results are unofficial; city councils will count provisional ballots and certify the election results by Sept. 4.

Candidates in some city council races will also see runoff elections, which take place on Oct. 9.
