— Another round of thunderstorms is organizing to our west, and that has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm watch for Jefferson County.
The watch is in effect until 9 p.m., and also includes Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Walker, and Shelby counties in the metro Birmingham area. Blount and St. Clair counties are not included.
Already this afternoon, a severe thunderstorm has been issued for Tuscaloosa County for a group of storms moving through the southern part of the county as of 2:45 p.m. That storm group is expected to move eastward into Bibb and Shelby counties; it should not affect north Jefferson.
Forecasters expect more storms to fire up as the day goes on, with high temperatures and humidity contributing to an unstable air mass that lends itself to the formation of severe storms. Large hail, high winds and lightning are the main dangers to be expected from the storms.
