— The atmosphere is once again ripe for the development of strong storms Saturday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of northwest Alabama under a slight risk for severe storms today, but not for metro Birmingham, Nevertheless, the local area could see scattered storms develop in the hot, humid conditions, but not approaching severe levels.
The greatest risks from these storms include gusty winds, lightning and heavy rain. With the ground still saturated from Friday's rain, some flash floods could develop in flood-prone areas.
High temperatures will top out near 90 this afternoon, and the chances of any one place getting rain is 30 percent this afternoon and 40 percent this evening. Overnight lows will drop to the lower 70s.
We'll see a similar forecast for Sunday, though rain chances will be a bit higher.
