— It's not just Monday, it's two days before Christmas...

Weather: Return of the chill. The storms and heavy rain are gone, and now we return to more seasonable weather – which for us means cooler temperatures. Skies will clear today, and highs will top out in the upper 40s with lows tonight in the middle 20s. Tuesday will be downright cold, as highs struggle to make it into the 40s. We'll warm up just a little as the week goes on.

Birthday party turns deadly. One person is dead, two others injured and a suspect is charged with a murder in an incident near Center Point. At about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, the altercation began outside Nikki's Event Center in the 1200 block of Center Point Parkway. A fight broke out at a birthday party being held there, and sheriff's investigators say a man came in the back door and opened fire on the crowd. One man, Roosevelt Parker Jr., was found dead in the parking lot. The suspect later turned himself in to police; his name is Marcus Jarrell White, age 28, of Birmingham. White was released on $50,000.

Quack backtrack. Not long after Cracker Barrel pulled merchandise from the “Duck Dynasty” television series from its store shelves, the restaurant/country store chain put them back after massive outcry from customers using online social media. The move came as part of the reaction to remarks by Phil Robertson, head of the family that is the subject of the highly-rated show, in an article in GQ magazine. Robertson strongly criticized gays for what he called a sinful lifestyle; he was then suspended by A&E Networks from the show, which has all but finished filming of its latest season.

Sports: Top trio. Three local players have been named to the 2013 All-State Football First Team by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Running back Nick Gibson of Pinson Valley, along with Fultondale lineman Kadarrius Lawrence and defensive back Jared Stewart were honored. Three other Wildcat players – quarterback/safety Kris Lewis, lineman Ethan Pope and kicker Enrique Aguilar – were given honorable mentions, as were Gardendale receiver Austin Hicks and Corner linebacker Jake Averhart... Pro football: Peyton Manning has broken another record, one which he set once before before it was subsequently broken. Manning threw his 51st touchdown pass of the season for the Denver Broncos, breaking the mark set by New England's Tom Brady, who broke Manning's original record in 2007.
