GARDENDALE — If you have a sweet tooth, you'll love two new eateries coming to Gardendale.
Mayor Othell Phillips made the announcements during his State of the City address Thursday at the Gardendale Civic Center.
Phillips said Panera Bread will occupy the former Shoney’s site on Fieldstown Road, and Dunkin’ Donuts is scheduled to open in the future McAdam Plaza planned across the street, next to Waffle House.
The former tuxedo shop building was torn down last week to make way for the development. Phillips said the new plaza will also include another business to be announced within the next few weeks.
In addition, the facility will have a 4,000-square-foot space for a “high-end” restaurant, he said.
Panera serves a wide array of sandwiches and baked goods, including sweets, and specialty coffees. The chain has several stores elsewhere in the Birmingham area. Dunkin' Donuts is also a national chain that is just beginning to make a presence in the Southeast; it's been a fixture in northern parts of the country for decades.
