A Brookside man is dead after being shot outside a convenience store in the Pratt City neighborhood of Birmingham.
Timothy Stewart, 31, was found dead inside a car that was driven to the Brookside Town Hall on Friday night. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
Birmingham Police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams would not give details about the apparent nature of the crime, saying that their homicide detectives are still developing leads in the case.
Brookside Mayor Roger McCondichie said that the victime was driven to the town hall by another man, also a Brookside resident. McCondichie would not speculate on the record as to what happened, but said that the driver “apparently panicked, and brought him here and started honking the horn like crazy.”
McCondichie said that Brookside officers responded, then notified Birmingham Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting appears to have happened at a store in the 200 block of Dugan Avenue.
Williams asked that anyone with information about the shooting call Crimestoppers at 254-7777.
