— That bright light you see in the sky is called the sun, and you might not have recognized it since it hasn't been seen in central Alabama for quite some time.
The sun has reappeared as the heavy snow moves out of metro Birmingham, That has given way to warmer temperatures, allowing snow and ice on many roads to thaw.
There's a bad side to that, though: Any moisture on roads tonight will re-freeze during the overnight hours, causing ice roadways Friday morning.
Because of that, Jefferson County Schools will delay their opening Friday morning by two hours. Teachers and staff are to report half an hour early.
Likewise, Tabernacle Christian School and its daycare will open at 10 a.m., Gardendale Christian Academy will open school at 10 and daycare at 9, and Sumiton Christian School will open at 10.
Most roads in the area are passable this early evening, but some lightly-used streets and roads may still be slushy.
