Weather: Today’s high is 85 degrees and the low tonight is 67. Look for some isolated thunderstorms this afternoon as well as for the rest of the week.
Jefferson County: The county commission has submitted a plan to refinance its debt and emerge from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. Officials hope the county will be out of bankruptcy status by December. The plan includes significant sewer rate hikes for residents. It still must be approved by a bankruptcy judge.
National: Nineteen firefighters were killed Sunday while battling a wildfire near Prescott, Ariz. The firefighters were part of an elite 20-member team that was very experienced. Officials said the wind shifted suddenly, causing the wildfire to overtake the team. The team deployed emergency shelters, but were still unable to survive the fire.
