Mt. Olive man killed. One person died in a wreck on Brookside Coalburg Road near the intersection with Archer Road. The victim, who was not identified by name as of midnight, was aged 33 and from Mt. Olive. He was thrown from his car in the two-car crash last night.
Ryan, Biden tangle tonight. Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential nominee, will debate Democrat incumbent Joe Biden tonight at Centre College in Danville, Ky. The pressure is on Biden, known for his occasional gaffes, after President Barack Obama suffered a consensus loss to GOP nominee Mitt Romney in their first debate, which has flipped most voter-opinion polls from a narrow Obama lead to one favoring Romney. Tonight’s debate begins at 8 p.m. and will be carried on all major broadcast and cable-news networks.
Sports: Wildcats’ game moved up. Fultondale will tangle with region for Vincent tonight, instead of Friday as originally scheduled. The game was moved to accommodate WABM-68 and its live broadcast as part of its “Thursday Night Lights” series… Cycling: The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency published its findings Wednesday on why it stripped Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France victories. The report included testimony from 26 witnesses, 11 of whom were former teammates, in what the agency called “the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen.” Armstrong was stripped of the titles in August after he refused to contest the charges. Armstrong, through his attorney, disputed the charges. The report goes to the International Cycling Union, and could go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Armstrong decides to appeal… Baseball: Raul Ibanez, who substituted for Alex Rodriguez in the bottom of the ninth inning, hit a solo homer for the Yankees to tie their National League Division Series game with the Orioles, then did it again in the bottom of the 12th to win the game. New York leads the series 2-1. Meanwhile, Seth Smith hit a two-run double, and then Coco Crisp’s hit drove in the winning run to give the A’s a 3-4 victory over the Tigers and a 2-1 lead in their AL Division Series.
