Severe weather may move in sooner than first expected

— The line of storms that may bring severe weather to central Alabama may reach the area a little earlier than originally forecast.

The National Weather Service says that a line of storms will enter the state sometime before midnight. How fast it will progress from west to east is still not certain, but the line could reach the metro area as early as 2 a.m. or not until sunrise.

In any case, this system is expected to bring possible severe storms with strong straight-line winds. There is a possibility of isolated tornadoes forming from individual supercells ahead of the line.

The system should be out of the metro area well before lunchtime, with temperatures turning considerably colder afterward. Highs will struggle to reach 60 during the day Friday.

The NWS advises residents to have their weather radios set to go off during the night if warnings are issued.
