BROOKSIDE —
He always wanted to be a federal agent. And he was armed like one.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Warrior man Monday morning, after finding him armed with four separate guns and carrying badges and identification cards purportedly identifying him as an agent for two federal agencies.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian said the man was pulled over for speeding on Hillcrest Road between Corridor X and Cherry Avenue, near Brookside. The man said he was a federal agent assigned to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the federal Counter-Terrorism Unit. He added that he had just returned form Afghanistan on a special-ops mission, and was performing surveillance on a house in McDonald’s Chapel.
The man produced NCIS and “Terrorism Specialist” identification cards, which the deputy determined to be novelty-style fakes. After backup arrived, the man was removed from the car; he was wearing a Smith and Wesson .40-caliber pistol in a shoulder holster, had a Ruger .380 handgun in one pocket and a Baretta .22 pistol in the other.
Further searches produced another handgun and a pair of handcuffs in a pocket on the driver’s side door. The car also had LED lights in the front and back windows.
The man then admitted that he was not an agent, but that he always wanted to be one.
The man, whose name is withheld pending formal filing of charges, was arrested for impersonating a peace officer and lodged in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond. He was also referred for a mental-health evaluation.
