Monday, Monday, can’t trust that day…
Weather: You’re gonna get wet. A cold front is moving through the state, and that will give us nothing but rain today. It will be heavy at times with some storms mixed in. The high will reach 81, and the low around 66 with a 100 percent chance of rain today and tonight. Tomorrow the rain will taper off, and temperatures will turn sharply cooler with highs in the middle 70s and lows down into the upper 40s.
Trust find transfer vote tomorrow. Voters will go to the polls tomorrow to decide whether or not to transfer $437 million from the Alabama Trust Fund to the state’s general fund. The trust fund hols more than $2 billion from royalties from offshore oil production, and this referendum seeks to move some of that into the general fund to help cover a shortfall. If approved the transfer would be made over a three-year time frame.
More attacks in Afghanistan. An Afghan policeman opened fire on NATO forced manning a checkpoint in Kabul, killing four American troops. It’s yet another insider attack that further strains relations between the country and NATO in general, and the U.S. in particular.
Sports: Monday Night Football in Hotlanta. Tonight, Peyton Manning and his new Denver team travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons on MNF. Sunday’s NFL winners included the Bengals, 49ers, Steelers and Chargers, who beat the Tennessee 38-10; the Titans open the season 0-2… NASCAR: Brad Keselowski won the opening Sprint Cup Chase race Sunday at Chicago, more than three seconds ahead of runner-up Jimmie Johnson… College football: Alabama is ranked on top of both major polls again, after they systematically laid waste to Arkansas on Saturday. LSU moves to the second spot after Southern Cal lost to Stanford.
