Gardendale

Miracle League discussed

Gardendale’s Miracle League project was a hot topic at Monday’s City Council meeting as the council voted to approve the solicitation of bids for a playing surface for the special needs ballfield, to be located at Luman Harris Park. Bids are due back for the Dec. 1 council meeting. The cost of the surface is expected to be at least $90,000. At least $50,000 of the cost will be paid for out of a state grant, which council members also voted to apply for at the meeting. The remainder of the money would come from an established Miracle League fund.

In other business, the council:

• annexed the following property into the city limits: 1753 Magnolia Street; 2695 and 2699 Snow Rogers Road; and 541 and part of 547 Guy Allen Road.

• approved a new street light on Jamestown Manor Park



Gardendale

Preliminary hearing held

A preliminary criminal court hearing was held on Monday for a Gardendale woman charged with theft of property.

Vickie Burgin was charged with first-degree theft of property in late September after church leaders at East Gardendale Baptist Church alleged that she had stolen from the church.

Burgin was reportedly acting as bookkeeper for the church.



Kimberly

Senior center hosts benefit

The Kimberly Senior Center will host a car show, bake sale, craft show and yard sale on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Jefferson Middle School. Proceeds will benefit the senior center and the middle school’s Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) program. For more information, contact the senior center at 647-9145.
