Shades Valley teacher named state ‘Teacher of the Year’

Roy Hudson, director of theatre at Shades Valley High School in the Jefferson County School System (Irondale), has been named the 2008-2009 Alabama Teacher of the Year.

State Superintendent of Education Joseph B. Morton announced the coveted title of Alabama Teacher of the Year during a reception at the RSA Plaza Terrace in Montgomery. With the title, Hudson assumes the role of official spokesperson and representative for teachers in Alabama for the next year. The reception, which honors all of the district finalists for Teacher of the Year, is held annually in celebration of the teacher’s dedication to education in Alabama Public Schools.

Hudson received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX; a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX; and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
