Warrior murder probed

By Adam Smith

The North Jefferson News

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office continued its investigation this week of a murder of a Warrior woman.

Sgt. Randy Christian said Thursday that the department had “some solid leads” but no arrest has been made.

The body of Sherry Fraught McCombs, 44, was found Tuesday night at about 11 p.m. by a family member. McCombs reportedly lived alone at the residence in the 1200 block of Arkadelphia Road.

Authorities said there were no signs of forced entry into the home. In published media reports this week, Christian said that McCombs likely knew her killer.

He also said there were several items taken from the home, including stereos and televisions. He said drawers in the home had also been pulled out and gone through.

“It appeared they were looking for anything of value, [like] cash, jewelry or electronics that they could take with them,” Christian said.

Authorities said McCombs had head trauma, but the official cause of death has not been released.

This is reportedly the first murder in the Warrior area in 12 years.
