What does the future hold for the United States?

If we read and study the history of the Roman Empire, we have a picture of what is in store for our nation.

We have become the Modern Roman Empire. Our forefathers established a form of government that allowed the individual the freedom to work and progress as far as his ability allowed. Hard work and an individual’s ability has allowed this nation to develop into the greatest nation in the world.

This system of government worked well for almost 200 years, until a majority of our citizens discovered they could vote themselves benefits from the national treasury. Our elected officials have capitalized on this issue. They realized they can use our tax money to buy our votes.

For the past 35 to 40 years, we have been electing candidates who promise the most entitlements. We have raised a generation of people who have placed their faith and trust in the federal government to take care of them from the cradle to the grave.

In my 76 years, I have watched our nation recover from a depression and develop into the world’s greatest empire. Sadly, in the past 40 years, I’ve watched this great empire slowly crumble away.

The great prosperity we’ve enjoyed for the past 40 years has been with borrowed money. Entitlement programs, stimulus packages and bailouts only make matters worse.

Our national debt is skyrocketing. Unless there is a complete reversal in the way our government is run, our debt will become so great, there will not be enough revenue generated to cover all the entitlements and interest on debt. When that happens, our elected officials will crank up the printing presses and start printing worthless money. Our dollar will become worthless.

Our elected officials have thrown common sense out the window and keep telling us fairy tales. Greed and corruption have invaded every level of our government: City, county, state and federal.

I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future, our Creator, the Almighty God. Our problems are beyond the ability of man to solve. Our leaders have lost their way and they need divine guidance. America needs to get on their knees and claim the promise of II Chronicles 7:14.
