Go Red for Women

I am writing in response to the article reporting that Birmingham is the least heart friendly city in Alabama.

Recently, I learned that heart disease is the number one killer of women. This really surprised me. After reading the statistics and signs of cardiovascular disease, I was provoked to understand why it was important to take care of my heart, even though I am so young.

The American Heart Association is promoting a cause called Go Red for Women. They want to empower women to take care of their hearts. They provide excellent resources for women to educate themselves about the dangers of cardiovascular disease. As a young woman, I believe it is important to educate the people that are special to me in my life, such as my mother and grandmother, about cardiovascular disease.

I hope that eventually we will be able to live in a more heart healthy world.
