GARDENDALE —
What do you do for a living?
I am a real estate agent. I used to be a registered nurse, was in real estate two and a half years, then went on a medical missions trip with our church, Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist. I came back to the Tubbs Realty merger with Keller Williams and now I am a Keller Williams agent.
I was a nurse for 30 years, 20 years as a flight nurse with the Air Force Reserve. I enjoyed the Air Force more. My love is there. It was interesting. It’s not for everyone, but it was great for me. Now because of being a real estate agent, I can do mission trips also. Real estate is great for me as far as that goes.
My son and I own a construction company and that’s how I got in the real estate business.
Where were your mission trips?
Well, I’ve been on three. The first was to Brazil and Bolivia for two weeks. Then I went to the Dominican Republic for two weeks; and my last trip was to the Dominican Republic for two more weeks. I always go with my church, Mt. Vernon.
What is the best part of the trips?
How wonderful the people are there, and how much they need God. They are so godly. The people are more of a blessing to us than we are to them. They are so appreciative of anything we can do for them. We are Facebook friends with our interpreters from there. My granddaughter, Katie, went with me on the last two trips. Her father, Bryan Howell, went on the last trip with us.
Tell me about your family.
I was born and based in Gardendale. In the early 80s I brought my two kids, Crissti Howell and Clint Johnson, back to Gardendale and they graduated from Gardendale High School, as I did. Now I have four grandchildren in Gardendale: Katie, Conner, Kamryn and Breck. My daughter has just started teaching at Gardendale also.

Retreat brings out the fun in women
Everyone needs a little down time — a little time to get away from the regular routine and be free to be themselves in a different environment. This little break comes every year at this time in my life in the form of a women’s retreat with the ladies from my church, The Church Revived.
