Person You Should Know — Jennifer Fox

GARDENDALE — Jennifer Fox is an ordained student pastor at The Church Revived in Gardendale and a receptionist and legal assistant at the law firm of Norman, Wood, Kendrick and Turner in Birmingham. She lives in Warrior.

• What’s it like working two jobs that are so different?

They are very different. I love my day job, but my heart and passion is for my students. I do some organizational work at my legal job, and I do things like answer phones. I teach 6th-12th grade at the church along with my husband, who works as a student pastor full-time. I am a volunteer, and I go on Wednesdays and Sundays, as well as any special events. We also have small groups at our house, and we go to ball games... We’re always on the go.

• How has your family impacted your work as a pastor?

My husband is a full-time student pastor at The Church Revived. We’ve been married for three years and are expecting our first child in November. I was ordained as a pastor by my church after teaching there for three years, but a lot of my training I got from my Dad. He was a pastor, and I grew up watching him.

• What have you learned from your legal job?

That I never want to be involved in a lawsuit! Seriously, though, I love my job. It’s very challenging. We do a lot of auto accidents, and we represent insurance companies. It’s neat to see how the legal process works, and to see that there’s always somebody on your side.

• What have you learned in your pastoring job?

Everybody has sinned, and that can make you feel rusty. God can take that rust off you, and show you that you have a place in the kingdom.

  • Retreat brings out the fun in women

Everyone needs a little down time — a little time to get away from the regular routine and be free to be themselves in a different environment. This little break comes every year at this time in my life in the form of a women’s retreat with the ladies from my church, The Church Revived.
